Based on the work done by Intelligent Fluid Solutions, a consultancy specialising in resolution of fluids-related design issues, with Althea de Souza, dezineforce senior engineer and an expert in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the case study demonstrates how advanced optimisation techniques can improve the design of complex installations like wind-farms.

Initially, the case study describes the impact of aerodynamic interaction between individual wind turbines in a wind farm on the total power output of the complete installation. It then goes on to explain how integrated analysis and optimisation workflows available in dezineforce were used to understand the impact of layout on yield for a sample site and identify the number of turbines and the arrangement to maximise a power-cost function.

In his article, Dr. Collins highlights how dezineforce offers an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use design optimisation service that promises to transform the way in which design engineers work. He covers the three key aspects of transformation that a service like dezineforce can bring: removing the limits of design optimisation, cost advantages and new design capability.

Removing the limits: by offering an instantly available, scalable service, accessible through the web, dezineforce removes the limitations in terms of access, lead times for set-up and capacity bottlenecks.

Cost advantages: insights gained from recent research by Cartezia show that a well-designed and executed SaaS service such as dezineforce can dramatically cut the cost of engineering design by eliminating hidden costs of design and offering a predictable all-inclusive subscription.

New design capability: dezineforce subscribers can access new design capability to collapse the length of design cycles through dezineforce’s unique combination of integrated design-simulate-evaluate processes and their execution on high performance compute clusters.

Dr. Collins concludes that dezineforce SaaS approach and its pioneering work in seamlessly integration of the design-simulate-evaluate process will promote further adoption of computer-based design worldwide and contribute to the growth of this $13bn market for some time to come.
